Our new 3 Tesla (3T) MRI, available at Saratoga Hospital’s Wilton campus, is good news for patients with certain prostate, neurological and joint conditions. The 3T MRI is twice as powerful as the 1.5T MRI that is the standard of care for most imaging procedures.
So, what exactly is a 3T MRI? Well, T stands for Tesla, which refers to the strength of the magnetic field created by the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) equipment. A stronger magnetic field creates clearer, more detailed images. This superior image quality is essential when viewing small areas such as the prostate, lesions in the brain and small joints.
“The 3T MRI provides us with extremely valuable information,” says urologist Dr. Brandon Otto, Saratoga Hospital Medical Group – Urology. “With this technology, we are now able to better visualize and biopsy possible prostate cancer, which may have been missed or not seen with traditional imaging and biopsy techniques. With advanced technology such as this, we’re truly improving community health.”
The hospital invested about $2 million to make highly sophisticated imaging easily accessible locally, so patients no longer have to travel out of the area. Plus, our MRI has a larger opening. This works well for patients who feel uncomfortable in smaller spaces, and our skilled and compassionate imaging team are there, offering reassurance through every step of the process.
The hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center, also on the Wilton campus, features some of the region’s most advanced women’s imaging technology. With the 3T MRI, the hospital offers comparable imaging services for men’s health, as well.
We’re proud to say that Saratoga Hospital patients can be confident they are receiving imaging services of the highest quality. The American College of Radiology has designated Saratoga Hospital a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence—the highest national recognition available. This applies to imaging services at both the hospital and Wilton Medical Arts.
